LANGKAWI, Malaysia, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia held a fleet review on Wednesday as part of the 15th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) as the Malaysian navy was joint by several of its foreign counterparts.

Among the participants, there are naval vessels from China, Australia, the United States and India, with a total of 14 foreign ships including 17 from the Malaysian Navy and 12 from other local organizations.

The fleets on display includes a minesweeper, destroyers, frigates, a missile attack craft and two specialized vessels, one floating platform dock and an amphibious command ship.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad reviewed the vessels along with members of his cabinet including Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamad Sabu.

Earlier in his keynote speech at the maritime conference, Mahathir said Malaysia aspires to be a maritime nation as the country performed 90 percent of its trade via shipping.

First launched in 1991 by Mahathir during his first term, the biennial program has grown into a major arms and technology showcase, drawing hundreds of companies from dozens of countries and regions.
