MEXICO CITY, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Gerardo Fernandez Norona, president of the Senate of Mexico, said on Friday that the country was willing to strengthen media and cultural exchanges with Xinhua News Agency.
Both Mexico and China are ancient civilizations with a long history and profound tradition, said Fernandez during a meeting with President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua at the senate, noting that strengthening media and cultural exchanges between the two countries will help deepen mutual understanding, enhance people-to-people friendship, and set an example for the coexistence of diverse cultures.
He noted that Xinhua News Agency maintains a truthful, rational and professional approach in the global media landscape, particularly at a time when public trust is under strain and misinformation is widespread.
He also expected the agency to continue to speak out for the Global South and become a representative of truth and justice in the global media ecosystem.
Mexico places great importance on its cooperation with China and hopes to build a new type of relationship based on equality and mutual trust, grounded in mutual respect, consensus and mutual benefit, to deliver more benefits to both peoples, Fernandez said.
Fu said the agency is willing to join hands with the Mexican Senate to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples, continue traditional friendship, and inject positive energy into the China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership for new heights.
The two sides can actively promote exchanges and mutual learning, while working together to tell stories of China-Mexico friendship well. He called on them to actively carry out bilateral dialogues, support each other, and speak out together on key issues.
Fu added that the two sides can also actively coordinate views and positions, and jointly amplify the voice of Global South countries on the international stage. ■
