PRAGUE, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The United States and Australia advanced to the final of the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup after winning their semifinal games in Brno, the Czech Republic, on Saturday.
The United States reaped their sixth straight victory by defeating Spain 70-58. Having built a 38-28 lead at the half time, the American women pulled away with a 26-14 surge in the third quarter. Although Spain rallied with a 16-6 run in the fourth quarter, it proved to be too late.
In the other semifinal, Australia beat Canada 87-75. The Australia took a 22-20 lead in the first quarter and maintained the advantage throughout the game. Sitaya Fagan led Australia with 14 points and six rebounds. Canada's Jasmine Bascoe scored a game-high 29 points, while Avery Howell added 20 points.
In the classification round for 9th to 12th places, China lost to Israel 84-79. China trailed for most of the game but took a 70-69 lead with a 9-0 run midway in the fourth quarter. The game remained close until the final minute, when Israel scored four straight points to secure the win.
Liang Yaqi starred for China with 25 points, 13 rebounds and three assists, while Li Yuqian contributed 21 points. Gal Raviv was the top scorer for the Israel with 38 points.
The final between the United States and Australia is scheduled for Sunday evening. ■
