RIO DE JANEIRO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- A multi-language report titled The Rise of the Global South was released on Wednesday by Xinhua News Agency during the BRICS Media and Think Tank Forum.

The report, published in Chinese, English and Spanish, compiles Xinhua's research over the past year on the independent development and revitalization of Global South countries, showcasing the innovative practices behind the collective rise of the Global South amid the profound transformations of the world.

Wirun Phichaiwongphakdee, director of the Asia-Pacific Think Tank of Thailand, said that the report tells the story of the collective awakening and rise of the Global South through case studies from Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific.

"The report weaves together political realities, historical retrospection and socio-cultural observations," Wirun said. "It is rich in cases and broad in perspective."

One of the report's chapters, "Bandung's call echoes 70 years on," has left Wirun a deep impression. The chapter highlights the enduring legacy of the 1955 Bandung Conference -- embodied in the Bandung Spirit of solidarity, independence and cooperation among Global South countries.

"Reading the chapter, I was once again deeply moved by the call and power of Bandung," said Wirun. "It marked a historic moment when the Global South stood up together -- a turning point in the transformation of the world order. More importantly, the Bandung Spirit is not merely a memory of the past, but a beacon that continues to guide the Global South forward in unity."

For Luis Lainez, director editorial at Diario El Salvador, the report has built a bridge for understanding and enabled more people to be aware that Global South countries have long been striving for independent development and continue to explore paths toward more progress.

Diario El Salvador, a Salvadoran newspaper, published the report's chapter, "Potosi awakes from its tragic past," which recounts the mining history of Potosi, Bolivia -- a city once at the center of colonial-era silver exploitation, and its modern transformation.

"This is a representative story that demonstrates the Global South's enduring spirit in its pursuit of change," Lainez said.

A collective of emerging markets and developing countries, the Global South accounts for over 40 percent of the global economy and is profoundly reshaping the global economic landscape while becoming a key force for change in the international order.
