SINGAPORE, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Ministry of Transport said here Monday that it has not received any official notification from Malaysia regarding the dropping of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) project.

This followed Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's announcement in a press conference earlier Monday that Malaysia would pull out of the pact. Mahathir said it was a "final decision" and his government still has to talk to Singapore over a penalty concerning the withdrawal.

However, a spokesman for Singapore's Ministry of Transport said it is still awaiting "official communication from Malaysia".

"We had agreed to proceed with the HSR project based on mutual benefits and obligations set out in the HSR bilateral agreement," the spokesman added.

Mahathir has made it clear that his government will review agreements made by the previous administration, including the HSR project.

Malaysia and Singapore signed a deal in 2016 to build the high-speed rail, which will deduct the travelling time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to just 90 minutes.
